Will TWL work as a social network..?

I'm not entirely sure it will. Which is a great place to start.

The blog worked because most of the audience could be passive. Just sit back and read, be entertained, be appalled, be bored. It took no effort. It did for me though, which is largely why it came to an end.

This'll need a great deal more involvement from the members if it's going to come to life. I have no doubt that it'll be a different beast...probably not quite as salacious. We're also going to have to keep things under control and I'm not sure how we'll manage that. After all, won't members be able to post on all and any subjects themselves?

I really should look into this stuff.

IMO if it does get to a large site then most people will just be commenters, I dont see the personal blogs being used much bar the odd article every quater or so. ofcourse there will be some 'bloggers' that come but I think they will be a minority.

I have to agree with kal. If this site can get enough members, at least they will be able to communicate with each other. I also imagine a more informed comment base would form around news stories. However, I do not see many people posting blogs.

Yeah, you're probably right but since most contributers whined that too many people were just reading and not participating. Or that too many of those reading were a bit annoying and...crap... why not have it as a group that contributes.

As long as it has the leftfield comment from a dozen people then it won't take too much time and will still have the draw.

Chris "Long Tail" Anderson says Ning is the future - so clearly TWL as social network is going to be a roaring success = possibly. We'll get out of it what we all put into it, etc, etc.
