Well, fall it might. Tired of waiting for a big fat redundancy cheque, the Geordie jester finally tossed his Ziff contract in the bin after 17 years and joins the IDG revolution to be editor in chief of CIO Magazine and CIO.co.uk.

Everyone is after the elusive CIO audience, given the great wedges of cash vendors would spend waving their brands in CIO faces.

While CIO-Connect continues to churn out a glossy mag full of vendor bylines, the real battle for the CIO will be between two of tech journalism's nicest blokes; Veitch and Silicon's Andy McCue.

May the nicest fella win, Actually, may they both win...

What with Iain Thomson off to Californikate in about a month's time, are the wheels coming off the Incisive Media tech buy-out, we might ask ourselves? If it's anything like some other publications in the Incisive stable, we'll soon be talking to Deputy Editors who've been out of college for about six weeks to see whether they want an interview with someone old enough to be their grandfathers...
